How do shower filters work ?
It depends on which brand of shower filter you are talking about. We use the Aquasana AQ-4100 which has a dual stage filter contained in a single unit. The first stage removes chlorine and balances the ph, while the second stage filters out the volatile organic chemicals and trichlormethanes. Works great and really softens your hair and skin!

I have an Aquasana AQ4100 shower filter. How often do I have to replace the catridges?
just wondering coz on their website they recommend changing the filter catridge every 6 months. i only shower 3-4 times a week (i have a bath on the other days). also im the only one that uses it since its in my bathroom. the replacements are really $$$. would it really make that much of a diff if i only replace them every 9 months or so?
Many factors determine filter changes, quality of water, usage, filter microns and purpose of filter. Nine months is reasonable for decent water, generally you will know by the drop in pressure and soft or hardness of the water.

Is there really chlorine in shower water?
I read in a magazine that the water from showers have chlorine that can be bad for skin and hair. How do you know if there really is chlorine in your shower water? Should I go out and buy a water purification filter for my shower? I know chlorine can really damage hair.
If you are on city water it does if you are on a well it doesn't.
